J&K: Na-Pak plot foiled, security personnel shot down drone, recover large quantity of explosives

Srinagar: Security personnel has shot down a drone carrying IED explosives in the Kanachak area of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Police have recovered explosive material from the drone. A police rapid response team (QRT) came into action and shot down a drone using an anti-drone strategy after it was reported that a drone was flying along the Border of Kanachak (IB) on Thursday night, the police official said.

Officials said the drone was flying within seven to eight kilometers of the border, had six large wings, and was a tetra-copter. He said the IED material seems to have been linked to drones and had to be made IED with explosive material before use. Earlier on Wednesday, a suspected drone was spotted in the Satwari area, while earlier on July 16, a drone that was seen flying around Jammu airbase was picked up by the radar of an anti-drone system deployed by the National Security Guard (NSG).

The NSG had deployed an anti-drone system in the city following a drone attack on the Jammu airbase last month. The Air Force had taken measures to prevent any such attack on Jammu and other important airports across the country. It has also taken stringent steps to deal with the threats posed by small drones. After the Jammu attack, there has been a huge increase in the number of drones and there are several instances where army and Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel have opened fire on them along the border.
