NEW DELHI: Congress MP Manickam Tagore moved an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha on Thursday to discuss the event in which the National Banner was replaced with the RSS/ABVP flag in a Karnataka educational institution, which tantamount to an insult to the Tricolour. The MP has asked the government to take harsh action against anyone who break the law. Manickam Tagore said, the incident occurred in Karnataka, where a few people were observed hoisting the RSS flag in a college campus during protests over the hijab issue. Last month, a few students from Udupi Government Pre-University College were denied permission to attend lessons because they wore hijab. The college administration said that students who previously did not wear hijabs suddenly began to do so. Later, the students protested by refusing to attend lessons without wearing hijab. The matter became a contentious topic that expanded to other districts, causing friction and even violence. In the midst of the tensions, the state government proclaimed a three-day holiday on Tuesday. Mohammad Imtiaz, President of the State Minority Education Institutions Association, has filed a complaint with State Police Chief Praveen Sood, alleging that minorities are being targeted in the wake of the hijab controversy.
