ALIGARH: The K'taka hijab controversy has reached Aligarh Muslim University, and there will be a protest on Friday.

Students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) had planned a protest march on campus on Wednesday, but were denied permission due to the district's Assembly elections on Thursday.

Later, students gathered on the AMU campus at Duck Point to protest the Karnataka hijab dispute. After deciding to hold a protest march on campus on Friday, they chanted religious slogans and dispersed.

"Students had requested permission in writing for carrying out a march in solidarity with women students in Karnataka who were denied admission to college grounds for wearing hijab," stated AMU proctor Mohd Wasim Ali (headscarf). The permission was rejected for (the march) today (Wednesday) since the model code of conduct is in effect due to the current assembly elections. Aligarh goes to polls on Thursday.
