BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is now in power in Karnataka, plans to distribute over a crore Ayushman Bharat cards by December. Over one crore Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka cards, covering 50% of the eligible population of Karnataka, would be distributed by December, said the health minister K. Sudhakar. Speaking to reporters, Sudhakar said that in a very short amount of time, one crore cards had been prepared. In terms of issuing Ayushman Bharat cards, Karnataka has become a national model state. Karnataka launched the n March 2018 with the aim of achieving universal health coverage. It offers free and cashless primary, secondary, and tertiary care for all patients who fall below the poverty line, with a family floater limit of Rs 2 lakh per year, and a 30%-subsidized co-payment package to patients who fall above the poverty line in higher government and empanelled private hospitals, the official said. This ensures families are safeguarded from catastrophic medical costs, Sudhakar added. The Minister said that the Chikkabalapur, Haveri, and Bangalore Rural districts had performed remarkably well and that registrations had already reached around one-third of their target population.
