Karnataka: Headmaster beaten with brooms for sexual harassment

MANDYA:  The Karnataka Education Department suspended a headmaster on Saturday after girls chased and attacked him with brooms for abusing them sexually.

The suspension order, in this case, was issued by Dr. R. Vishal, Commissioner of the Karnataka Public Instruction Department. The accused has been detained by the police, who have also filed a POCSO case against him.

The incident toook place on Wednesday night in the Katteri village girl's hostel in the Pandavapura taluk of the Mandya district. The accused was given control of the hostel since he was the headmaster of a higher primary school. Every evening, he would stop by the hostel and invite young women to his room.

The students said that the accused headmaster used to expose them to pornographic material and touched them inappropriately. He threatened that if they revealed anything, he would ensure that the students get a bad character remark on their transfer certificates.

The students said that they tolerated him for years. On Wednesday evening, the accused called a girl to his room in the hostel and tried to sexually harass her.

When the girl screamed for assistance, all the girls came together and beat him with sticks and brooms. They chased him all over the hostel and after thrashing him, they told the police.
