Karnataka: PM to inaugurate HAL's helicopter factory on Feb 6

Tumakuru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit poll-bound Karnataka on Monday, February 6, to dedicate to the nation a helicopter production unit of state-run aerospace conglomerate Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Karnataka's Tumakuru on Monday, February 6.

The PM will also inaugurate the India Energy Week aimed at showcasing the country's rising prowess as an energy transition powerhouse. He will also launch E20, a blend of 20% ethanol with petrol. 

 

It is India's largest helicopter manufacturing facility and will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters. Spreading across 615 acres, the greenfield helicopter factory is planned with a vision to become a one-stop solution for all helicopter requirements of the country, a defence ministry statement said on Saturday.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited plans to produce over 1,000 helicopters in the range of 3-15 tonnes, with a total business of over Rs 4.00-lakh crores over a period of two decades. Besides generating direct and indirect employment, the Tumakuru facility will strengthen the development of surrounding areas through its Corporate Social Responsibility activities with large-scale community-centric programmes on which the company will spend substantial amounts. All this will result in improvement in the people’s lives in the region.

Senior Ministry of Defense personnel and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the industrial facility's inaugural event.

The LUH is a single-engine, multipurpose utility helicopter of the 3-tonne class that was created and designed entirely domestically. According to the government, this factory will initially build about 30 helicopters annually, with the capacity increasing gradually to 60 and finally 90.

The first Light Utility HHelicopter has been flight tested and is ready for unveiling.
