Yeddyurappa gets approval from Amit Shah to expand cabinet

Bangalore: After the collapse of the JDS-Congress coalition government, the BJP formed a new government in Karnataka under Yeddyurappa's leadership. But even after 22 days of government formation, Yeddyurappa could not form his own cabinet. That is why he was also the target of the Opposition. In a tweet, CM Yeddyurappa said, the BJP Legislative Party will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Legislative Assembly Auditorium. The Cabinet will be expanded on the same day. The extension will be done on 20th August.

According to BJP sources, 13 ministers will take oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday. The maximum number of ministers in the state is 34 and the rest of the ministers will be inducted into the Cabinet later. Sources said the cabinet expansion was delayed as the party was unable to finalise the names of potential ministers. Earlier also, Yeddyurappa had gone to Delhi to discuss the issue but the final decision could not be taken. BJP sources said, the biggest challenge is the caste equation.

Of the total MLAs of the party, 39 come from the Lingayat community and the Chief Minister himself is from this community. Lingayat is the BJP's biggest supporter. After Lingayat is Vokkaliga. The main faces of the community include R Ashok, Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayaan, CT Ravi and SR Vishwanath. The party will have to give representation to the Dalit community, scheduled tribes, Brahmins and other backward castes in the Cabinet. A total of 17 disqualified MLAs from the Congress-JDS government could also be inducted into the government. Yeddyurappa was sworn in as Chief Minister for the fourth time on July 26.
