THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government of Kerala has announced a financial package for all government employees and pensioners to keep date with the harvest festival of the Kerala, Onam. App.roximately 1.3 million people are entitiled to get the benefit. Onam bonus has been a tradition for many years. This time, it contains Rs 2,750 for those who do not meet the criteria for a bonus and Rs 4,000 for all government employees. In addition, all state government employees will receive an advance of Rs 20,000, which will be paid back over the next few months in installments. The retirees will receive an additional Rs. 1,000 in addition to their monthly pension, while all part-time and contingent workers would receive an advance of Rs. 6,000 in addition to their August paychecks. The cash-strapped state government as to shell out an extra Rs 1,000 crore to fulfil its Onam obligations. All employees in the state's private sector are generally eligible to receive an Onam bonus equal to one month's wages. The state is fully prepared to go back to the pre-Covid era and celebrate the harvest festival in a spectacular fashion, unlike the previous two years when it was a low-key affair due to the pandemic. Onam is an annual Malayali harvest festival, in the Indian state of Kerala. A major annual event for Keralites, it is the official festival of the state and includes a spectrum of cultural events. Drawing from Hindu tradition, Onam commemorates King Mahabali and Vamana. The Onam festival brings together a multitude of colours and flavours from across God’s Own Country, as Kerala Known as, and the celebrations reach their apex on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam.
