THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the state's Kerala Assembly on Tuesday that the nation's largest infrastructure project, the Silver Line (K-Rail), has not been postponed and is still awaiting approval from the Center.
"The Center has not put the Silver Line project on hold; rather, it is seeking approval. The development of the state depends on this initiative. We will take into consideration any similar development projects that the Center may propose "the Chief Minster said.
In response to inquiries about the House project, he spoke. When asked if the various cases filed against those who raised objections to the project will be dropped, he responded negatively, "No, it won't be dropped." It is believed that the project is the chief minister's pet endeavour, and soon after assuming power for a second time during the 2021 April Assembly elections, he stated his resolve to move forward with it.
To his surprise, the Thrikkakara Assembly bypoll a few months ago saw a crushing defeat for the CPI-M, making the project's completion more difficult. Following that, everything remained in a state of uncertainty until this morning, when the problem returned.
The K-Rail project was called "idiotic" by Metroman E.Sreedharan, who also said that it could not be realised because it would have negative environmental or economic effects. If the K-Rail project is successful, it will create a 529.45 km line that will connect Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, with semi-high speed trains able to travel that distance in about four hours.
