THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Tuesday that the Union Budget contains no solutions to the Covid pandemic's problems, which affects the entire country, not just Kerala. "Everyone expected the local economy to strengthen in the wake of the pandemic blues, which has taken a tremendous toll," Vijayan said. "But what has emerged in the budget is a weakening of the entire system, as there is nothing in the budget to seriously address it." He went on to say that all of the states have asked for the GST compensation from the federal government to be extended for another five years, but nothing has been done about it. "What we observe is that the disinvestment in the railway and aviation sectors is being bolstered in other areas as well, which is a serious threat, as globalisation policies have taken a heavy toll on the people," Vijayan added. However, he spoke highly of many programmes in the budget that Kerala has already implemented, such as a digital university, online education, M-services, and the optical fibre proliferation that has already begun in the state.
