Kerala: Excise department on search for people who planted 'Cannabis' on World Environment Day

Kochi: The Excise Department in Kerala has started searching for people posting pictures on social media planting cannabis plants (Cannabis plants) were planted on June 5, World Environment Day. The cannabis plants were found on the side of the lane leading from Kurishdi Junction to Bypass Road near Mangad (Mangad in Kollam) in Kollam district. Each plant is said to be 30 to 60 centimeters long.

On receiving the information, the authorities conducted a search operation under the Mangd bypass bridge, but the plants were removed before they reached the spot. Local residents became suspicious of the activity before the excise department came to know about it. Excise Special Squad Circle Inspector T Rajiv and the team soon reached the spot to confirm the same. Assistant excise commissioner B Suresh told the media that those involved will be arrested soon.

A man from Kandachira is also suspected to be involved in the case as he was accused in the cannabis case before. A team of excise preventive officers M Manoj Lal, Nirmalan Thampi, Binulal Civil Excise Officer Gopakumar, Srinath, Anil Kumar, Julian Cruz and driver Nitin had initiated investigation into the case.
