THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three family members in Kerala committed suicide on Friday after failing to pay off their debts. The 48-year-old Rameshan was unable to make the payments despite his best attempts. Rameshan, who had been employed in the Middle East, came back to Kerala on Wednesday. In their home in Kadinamkulam, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram, Rameshan, his 46-year-old wife Sulajakumari, and their 23-year-old daughter Reshma had barricaded themselves in a room. The neighbours heard sounds of screaming from the house and attempted to break open the door to the room but to no avail. Rameshan's aged in-laws, who also live in the same house, were unhurt. According to his father-in-law, the family took this drastic action as a result of persecution from people Rameshan had borrowed money from. A suicide note is said to have been found by the police, and a case of unnatural death has been reported. A probe is also in progress.
