Congress leader Shashi Tharoor gets major relief in the case, Kolkata High Court stays arrest

Kolkata: Senior Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Shashi Tharoor has received a major relief from the Kolkata High Court. The court has stayed his arrest warrant. A Kolkata Magistrate Metropolitan Court had issued an arrest warrant against Shashi Tharoor on August 13. The warrant was issued against Shashi Tharoor for his remarks on Hindu Pakistan. A lawyer named Sumeet Chowdhury had registered a case against him for his "Hindu Pakistan" statement.

In fact, on July 11, 2018, Shashi Tharoor had said that if the BJP wins the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it would create a situation like making India a "Hindu Pakistan". Addressing a function in his parliamentary constituency Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor had said that the BJP will write a new constitution which will pave the way for transforming India into a nation like Pakistan where the rights of minorities will be violated, they will have no respect.

He said if BJP wins the Lok Sabha elections again, the country's democratic constitution will be destroyed as they have all the elements to abolish the Indian Constitution and write a new constitution. The new constitution written by the BJP will be entirely based on the principles of the Hindu nation, which will completely destroy the rights of minorities and make the nation 'Hindu Pakistan'. BJP had demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi.
