New Delhi: Controversial comedian Kunal Kamra has made extremely indecent remarks about the Supreme Court of India in his new 'Comedy' show 'Be Like.' On the ongoing contempt case against him in the Supreme Court, Kamra has abused the Hon'ble Court saying, "Dear Supreme Court! Kal Ki Baat Bhool Ja, La*d Pakad Ke Jhul Ja.' Before making derogatory remarks against the apex court, Kamra said that he has more respect for the food court of shopping malls than the Supreme Court. He further alleged that the Supreme Court is a case of 'Brahmin Banias' and does not represent different cultures. Kamra further said 'The Supreme Court of the country, which I do not even believe... I respect the food court of a shopping mall more... at least it represents different cultures. The Supreme Court of the country is the case of 'Brahmin-Baniya'. I don't respect it.' In December 2020, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to Kunal Kamra regarding action after making contemptuous remarks against the judiciary. In one of his tweets, Kamra showed his middle finger to the then CJI Arvind Bobde and in another tweet, he painted the Supreme Court in saffron alleging that it has become a puppet of the NDA government. In the first tweet, Kamra compared the Supreme Court to the Supreme Joke. In the next tweet, he wrote that 'The speed with which the Supreme Court works in matters of 'national interest,' time has come to replace Mahatma Gandhi's picture with Harish Salve's picture.' In his third tweet, Kamra linked Justice DY Chandrachud to a "flight attendant serving champagne to first class passengers, who provide fast service. While the general public did not know whether he would ever be boarding or sitting.'' In the last tweet, he urged the lawyers to stop using 'honourable' for them, referring to the apex court or its judges. He said, 'Here respect has left long ago.' Kamra had also posted a morphed picture of the Supreme Court building, in which the BJP flag was hoisted at the entrance of the Supreme Court. Mumbai-based lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui said if the court does not act on the derogatory statements made by Kamra, lakhs of his followers will follow the same path and make similar allegations when the verdict is not in their favour. In such a situation, now it has to be seen whether the Supreme Court or the police take any action against Kunal Kamra or not. Because if no action is taken, then in reality also a terrible trend can start in the country, in which people will openly submit to the Supreme Court if the decision is not taken according to their mind and the respect of the judiciary will not be even at the slightest.
