The counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has begun today, covering 543 constituencies across India. The spotlight is on whether the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will retain power or if the Opposition’s INDIA bloc can overturn the exit poll predictions. The results will determine the fate of over 8,000 candidates, with heightened security in states such as West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized that the counting of postal ballots would commence first at all counting centers, adhering strictly to the Conduct of Election Rules.

Post the final phase of the elections on June 1, major exit polls forecasted a third term for the BJP-led NDA, projecting close to 360 seats for the alliance. Conversely, the INDIA bloc is anticipated to secure around 150 seats. However, the INDIA bloc has dismissed these predictions as unfounded.
