Churachandpur: An Indian Army colonel, his wife and 8-year-old son and four Assam Rifles soldiers were killed in an attack in Churachandpur, Manipur on Saturday. Col. Viplav Tripathi was the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 46th Assam Rifles. Officials said, 4 other persons were injured in the ambush, which took place about 3 km from the Deheng area. PM Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur and said, "I pay homage to the soldiers and family members who have been martyred today. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this time of grief. In a tweet, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy at Churachandpur in Manipur is very sad and condemnable. The country has lost 5 brave soldiers, including the CO of 46th Assam Rifles and two members of their families. My condolences are with the bereaved families. The culprits will be brought to the fore soon. Manipur CM N Biren Singh tweeted condemning the incident. In a tweet, he wrote, "Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles, killing some personnel including the CO and his family in Sisipur today''.
