Relief amid Corona's third wave, this 'vaccine' is effective on children

Washington- Vaccine maker Moderna has claimed that its anti-covid-19 vaccine is effective in adults as well as children who have turned 12. At the same time, the vaccine is on its way to becoming the second alternative to the vaccine in the US for this age group. In fact, the global supply of vaccines continues to be scarce and most countries in the world are struggling to vaccinate adults to mitigate the epidemic.

The US and Canada, however, approved earlier this month another vaccine - manufactured by Pfizer and Biotech - to people above the age of 12 years. Moderna is in line for the approval and said it will hand over its data on adolescents to the US Food and Drug Administration and other global regulators early next month.

The company has conducted research on 3700 children in the age group of 12 to 17 years. Early results showed that the vaccine works on the protection of adolescent resistant mechanisms just like adults and shows similar temporary side effects such as swelling, headache and fatigue in the arm. Covid-19 was not found among the two doses of Moderna vaccine, while four cases were found in the children who were administered dummy vaccines. The company said in a press release that the first dose was 93 per cent effective two weeks later.
