MP: Student made to do 100 sit- up as punishment, one hospitalized

Another cruel incident comes to light in which the teacher made students do 100 sit-ups as a punishment due to which one student was hospitalized. The incident was reported from a government secondary school located in Girdauda village in Madhya Pradesh’s  Neemuch district.

The father of the minor girl student of class 6th, Rajesh Suthar complained that five children including his daughter have been subjected to severe corporal punishment and were made to do 100 sit-ups after which Suthar’s daughter Komal was admitted to the district hospital. Talking about his daughter's condition he said she was unable to walk or even stand.

Dilip Chhajed, chairman of the Human Right Monitoring  Committee (HRMC) approached the district collector, education officials, and the education minister. The Chairman has urged to the concerned persons to intervene in the matter and conduct a fair inquiry as it amounts to a violation of child rights. Chhajed has demanded strict action against the accused teacher if found guilty.

A similar incident of corporal punishment was reported in earlier in Sardarpur Tehsil in which three students from the private school in Sardarpur Tehsil had lodged a police complaint against the principal of their school. The students accused their Principal of thrashing them brutally.
