Ajit Pawar speaks on phone tapping case: 'There is truth in the complaint'

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has recently reacted to Congress leader Nana Patole's phone tapping case. In fact, reacting, he said, "Nana Patole's phone tapping complaint is true. Phone tapping of leaders and public representatives was done by giving false names. The same thing has happened in the case of Nana Patole. The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a High-Level Committee.'' At the same time, he further said, "If this has been done for national security or public safety, it is fine. But if the phones of political leaders and people's representatives have been tapped for their personal gain, it is completely wrong. It is against the law and it is not right to do so in a democracy.''

Let me tell all of you that the Maharashtra Government has constituted a 3-member Inquiry Committee under the Chairmanship of DGP Maharashtra to look into the allegations of phone tapping of leaders for political purposes by Nana Patole. It is going to investigate the Kamti case and submit its report within three months. In fact, the Home Department of Maharashtra has constituted a High-Level Inquiry Committee in the phone tapping case.

In an order issued, the government has asked the Inquiry Committee to look into phone tapping from 2015 to 2019 and conduct an inquiry into illegal tapping. However, now, if the phone tapping has taken place, the Inquiry Committee will also have to ensure the responsibility of the concerned people. Nana Patole had earlier this year alleged that the Devendra Fadnavis government had tapped the phones of him as well as several leaders of Rankpa, BJP and Shiv Sena in 2016. Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Valse Patil had announced a high-level inquiry after he came to know about the allegations.
