Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh Enroll BJP's Margdarshak Mandal

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have been inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Margdarshak Mandal, the party's guiding committee. Their names and photos are now displayed on the official BJP website alongside veteran leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, who have been part of the Mandal for some time.

Historical Context In 2014, then BJP president Amit Shah announced the formation of the Margdarshak Mandal, including leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Murli Manohar Joshi. With Vajpayee's passing in August 2018, the committee continued under the guidance of Advani and Joshi. Now, with the inclusion of Modi and Singh, the committee gains contemporary leadership while retaining its foundational wisdom.

Reactions and Political Speculation The announcement has sparked reactions from political opponents. The Kerala Congress commented on the new appointments, suggesting it might be a precursor to internal changes within the BJP. They questioned whether this is a "dry run" for future political strategies following recent challenges.

Roles and Responsibilities Both Modi and Singh remain active in other key roles within the BJP. They are members of the BJP Parliamentary Board, which includes other prominent leaders such as JP Nadda, Amit Shah, B S Yediyurappa, Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. K Laxman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Sudha Yadav, and Dr. Satyanarayana.

Recent Milestones Last week, Narendra Modi was sworn in for a historic third term as Prime Minister, marking a significant achievement in Indian political history. Rajnath Singh also retained his position as Defence Minister, continuing his role for a second consecutive term. Singh, a Member of Parliament from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, first took charge of the Ministry of Defence on June 1, 2019.

With the inclusion of Modi and Singh in the Margdarshak Mandal, the BJP aims to blend its historical leadership with its current and future strategies, ensuring continuity and growth.
