Free Ration Scheme extended for 3 months, central employees also got Diwali gift

New Delhi: In a major relief to the poor section of the country, the Modi government has decided to extend the scheme of giving free rations for three more months. The scheme was to end on September 30. Earlier, the government decided to extend the scheme for three months i.e. till the end of this year. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Along with this, the central government has also given a big gift to the central employees. Dearness Allowance (DA) of central employees has also been increased by 4 per cent.

According to the Finance Ministry, extending the scheme of free ration for three months will put an additional burden of Rs 45,000 crore on the exchequer. Official sources said the central government has taken this decision after reviewing the stock of food grains stored. At present, the government has a considerable quantity of food grains. Earlier, there were discussions that perhaps the scheme of free ration will now be discontinued, but this decision is also being seen from political perspectives.

Actually, this is because elections are proposed in Gujarat and Himachal in the next three months. In such a situation, the decision to extend the scheme for three months is also being linked to it. During the crisis of the Corona epidemic, this scheme was launched by the central government in the name of PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Under this, 5 kg of free ration is given to every person per month.
