Ranchi: A 55-year-old woman was beaten to death with a stick in the Tamar police station area of Jharkhand's capital Ranchi. The murder was carried out by her nephew. After killing, he reached the police station and surrendered himself before the police. On receiving the news of the murder, the police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The criminal told the police that he had killed his aunt on the charge of being a witch. The incident took place in Baredih village.   

According to the news received, the deceased Sarla Devi was coming to her house after throwing cow dung. Nephew Jaidev Swansi, who was already waiting on the way, attacked the aunt as soon as he saw the opportunity. The aunt was attacked several times with sticks on her head, killing her on the spot. The deceased's house was a short distance from the spot of the incident, and as soon as the woman's husband came to know about it, he immediately ran to save her. But the criminal nephew tried to attack him with a stick too. He then ran to the village seeking help and informed the villagers.  

The deceased woman's son works as a labourer in Ranchi. When he reached the village on the news, he fainted after seeing his mother in a bleeding state. In this incident, Rural SP Ranchi Naushad Alam said that the criminal Jaidev Swansi, fearing the police, went straight to Tamar police station and confessed to his crime and surrendered himself before the police. An FIR was registered against the culprit under 302/34 and 3/4 Witch Bisahi Act and arrested him. Rural SP Ranchi Naushad said that the villages have seen a rise in cases of witch-hunting. Recently, a similar triple murder incident was reported. For this, the people of the village need to be made aware. So that such cases can be curbed. The police will now launch a campaign against persons performing tantra-mantra. Who provokes gullible people to do such things.
