In ongoing anti-terror operations, Jammu and Kashmir police reported the death of one terrorist in a fierce encounter with security forces in the forest area of Doda district. This operation comes in the aftermath of twin terrorist attacks earlier this month in the hilly district.

The gunfight erupted around 9:50 am in Bajaad village, Gandoh area, as security forces comprising state police, Army, and CRPF intensified search and cordon operations. The heightened measures were implemented following terrorist assaults on June 11 and 12, 2024, which resulted in injuries to six security personnel at Chattargalla joint check post and a policeman at Kota top in Gandoh.

After the twin attacks, security forces launched extensive anti-terror operations and announced a cash reward of Rs. 5 lakhs each for four Pakistani terrorists suspected of infiltration and operational activities in the district.

According to police officials, the encounter intensified when terrorists, holed up in a 'dhok' (mud house) in Sinoo Panchayat village, opened heavy fire on the search teams. In the ensuing exchange, security forces retaliated, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist who emerged from cover and engaged in gunfire.

As of the latest reports, the exchange of fire was ongoing, with an army helicopter providing aerial surveillance support in the area.

Additionally, in a separate incident in Rajouri district's Chingus area, officials recovered a Chinese hand grenade from Pind village.

Since June 9, the region has witnessed multiple terror incidents, including attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda, resulting in the tragic deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan. Furthermore, a civilian and seven security personnel sustained injuries during these attacks.
