NDRF deploys teams in Odisha, W. Bengal and Andhra Pradesh

Odisha: After a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm Jawad, which may approach the Puri district coast before touching away in the north-east direction, the Odisha government began redeploying the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Friday. In Kolkata, two teams have been sent, with one each in the South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Hooghly, and Nadia districts.

"When the storm approaches Odisha along the Puri coast, wind speeds are expected to be around 90 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h." P. K. Jena, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), stated the hurricane might make landfall between December 4 evening and December 5 morning. He went on to say that impacts would be felt more in areas like Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Khordha, where a red rain warning had been issued for December 4 and 5.

"Reserve forces stationed in Koraput and Boudh are being shifted to Puri and Khordha districts in light of the shifting circumstances." Additionally, soldiers held in reserve by the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority will be deployed in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Cuttack," he said.
