Nepal Plane Crash LIVE Updates: 18 Feared Dead After Saurya Airlines Aircraft Skids Off Runway

In a tragic aviation incident on Wednesday, a Saurya Airlines aircraft carrying 19 passengers crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The aircraft, which was preparing to take off for the resort city of Pokhara, veered off the runway, resulting in a catastrophic accident.

The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear. Local media reports indicate that the plane lost control and skidded off the runway, eventually crashing into a nearby ditch. Smoke was seen rising from the wreckage, and the scattered debris was visible in the area. Emergency crews have managed to bring the fire under control, but the damage was extensive. The main international and domestic airport in Nepal has been temporarily closed as emergency responders work diligently at the crash site.

The crash occurred amid the monsoon season in Kathmandu, but it was not raining at the time of the incident. Nonetheless, low visibility in the capital city may have contributed to the situation. The Saurya Airlines aircraft involved in the accident was a Bombardier CRJ 200, commonly used for domestic flights.

In the aftermath of the crash, police spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki confirmed that the pilot has been rescued and is currently receiving medical treatment. Despite this, it is feared that many passengers did not survive the ordeal. According to recent updates, at least 18 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the region and highlights the need for thorough investigations to prevent future tragedies.
