NEW DELHI: One of the tallest, most lifelike, monolithic, handmade sculptures in India, the 28-foot-tall towering statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, September 8. A 100-feet-long truck with 140 wheels was exclusively designed for this monolithic granite stone to travel the 1665 kms from Khammam in Telangana to New Delhi. Officials of the Ministry of Culture said, the impressive statue of Netaji was carved from a 280 MT monolithic granite block. A 65 MT figure was chiselled out of the granite rock after 26,000 man-hours of intense artistic labour. The statue was entirely hand sculpted utilising both conventional methods and contemporary tools. Arun Yogiraj served as the team leader of the sculptors who created the statue. The statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which will be opended by the Prime Minister, is being installed in the same location where a hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled earlier this year on Parakram Diwas (January 23) by him to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji. Traditional Manipuri Shankh Vadayam and Keralan Panch Vadayam and Chanda will be played as the Prime Minister arrives at the canopy for the unveiling of the statue of Netaji. The traditional INA hymn Kadam Kadam Badhaye jaa would be played during the unveiling of the statue of Netaji. 500 dancers from all around the nation will perform in a cultural festival on the Kartavya Path to showcase the spirit of Ek Bharat - Shrestra Bharat and Unity in Diversity.
