Newspoll: Voters tip Australian voters to win the election

Canberra: According to a news poll, Australia's main opposition Labor Party is the front-runner among voters in the upcoming federal election.

According to sources, the latest Newspoll, which was released on Sunday night, found that 47 percent of respondents expect Labor to form a government following the election in May 2022, compared to 37 percent who want the ruling Coalition to stay in office.

The margin is narrower than it was in the run-up to the 2019 election, when 55 percent of respondents predicted a Labor victory only for the Coalition to pull off a massive upset and gain a third term in power. On a two-party preferred basis, Labor still leads the Coalition 53-47, according to the poll.

According to the study, preference deals with independents, who could have a huge impact on the election result, with 13 percent of respondents saying they want to vote for small parties as their first choice. Prime Minister Scott Morrison continues to lead Labor leader Anthony Albanese in the polls as the people' preferred Prime Minister, with 45 percent voting for him and 36 percent voting for Albanese. Albanese received a negative six rating, while Morrison's had a negative eight rating, compared to a positive 36 rating in 2020.
