Omicron variant detected in wastewater In Houston,

HOUSTON (Texas): The Omicron form of Covid-19 was discovered in wastewater in Houston, the largest city in the south-central US state of Texas, city officials announced on Tuesday, confirming the new strain's local spread. According to numerous local media outlets, the Omicron strain has been discovered in eight of the city's 39 wastewater treatment plants.

According to Texas Department of State Health Services sources, a lady in her 40s living in Harris County, which encompasses much of Houston, was identified on Monday as the state's first instance of the Omicron Covid strain.

According to local media, the woman was properly vaccinated and had no recent travel history. According to the Chicago Tribune, the first Covid Omicron variant case in Chicago was discovered in someone who had contact with someone who had gone to the city and tested positive for Omicron in another state. The person was properly vaccinated with a booster dose and is not hospitalised.

The World Health Organization has classified Omicron as a "variant of concern" after it was first diagnosed in South Africa on November 24.
