Oocyte Cryopreservation: A boon for ladies intending to delay family planning

Preserving Eggs is not yet a very common term to be referred to. It was when former Miss World Diana Hayden talked regarding preserving her eggs, that this topic came into light. The basic intention behind preserving eggs has always been believed to be women wanting to keep away from pregnancy, to focus on their career.  Well, according to a recent report published by the IANS, women feel the lack of a stable and long-lasting relationship and hence they tend to choose to freeze their eggs. According to a study, 85% of the total women who chose to freeze their eggs were single. The women were into different circumstances but they were mostly single. Some of them were divorced or divorcing, broken up from a relationship, working overseas, single mother by choice or circumstance, and career planning.

Former Miss World, Diana while talking about her decision to get her eggs preserved, asserted "I always knew that I wanted to meet Mr Right, fall in love, get married and have children. I also knew that Mr Right was nowhere in sight at the time, I was 32, and my biological clock was going tick-tock-tick-tock. I froze them so that if ever the time came, I would have an option, more like an insurance for my future (the numbers and quality of a woman's eggs drop at the age of 30, 35, 40...). I no longer felt the pressure of having to find Mr. Right within a time frame, or having a baby in the next few years, or choosing between work or family if and when that time came." Marcia Inhorn from the Yale University in the US affirmed, "Most of the women had already pursued and completed their educational and career goals but by their late 30s had been unable to find a lasting reproductive relationship with a stable partner. This is why they turned to egg freezing." Well, this invention of oocyte cryopreservation is a real boon for women who want to concentrate on their careers first and delay family planning.
