Puri: Puri city of Odisha has become the first city in India to deliver pure drinking water from taps to every household. All households in the city will now have a 24-hour drinking water facility, which will benefit the 2.50 lakh population of Puri. State CM Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated the 'Drink from Tap' (Sujal) facility through video conferencing, after which Puri joined cities in the world where every household has 24-hour pure drinking water. CM Patnaik said at the inauguration of the Sujal Mission that 'delivering clean drinking water from taps 24 hours a day to all households is a transformation project and an important step towards making Puri a world-class heritage.' Tell you that the Sujal Mission was launched to provide pure water from taps to more than 1.5 million population in 15 urban areas. It also includes a 24-hour helpline center, mobile water testing lab, and a team for immediate action on water supply complaints about redressal of complaints. The state government has set a target of completing the scheme in all urban areas of Odisha by March 2022. If this target is met, Odisha will become the first state in the country to do so. The plan to provide pure drinking water from taps to all households is on the lines of countries like the US, England, Japan, and Singapore.
