BHOPAL: In a truck in the nearby state of Gujarat, the Madhya Pradesh Unit Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) seized 2,597 kilogrammes of poppy straw concealed inside bags of dry red chilli, an official said on Saturday Following a tip-off, the Central Bureau of Narcotics intercepted a truck with a Rajasthan licence plate near a hotel in Untiya, Vadodara, where the operation was carried out on June 1. As per the information obtained, the poppy straw was being transported from Jharkhand to Rajasthan via Gujarat. Accordingly, the road was under strict monitoring, and the vehicle was halted after being recognised by CBN officers, he said. It was discovered that the vehicle was carrying dry red chilies in white plastic bags as cover cargo. The poppy straw was stowed in the truck behind the cover cargo, the vehicle's occupant admitted after lengthy questioning, said officials. They said, it was decided to bring the truck to the closest CBN office because it was not safe or secure to search the truck on the highway. After being transported to the CBN office, the car was fully examined, and behind the 50 bags of dry red chilli, 104 white plastic bags totaling 2,597.850 kg of poppy straw were found, the officials claimed. The truck, along with the poppy straw and cover cargo, were seized after the necessary legal procedures were completed, and one individual was detained in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official reported. In a container truck at the Mehsana toll plaza in Gujarat earlier this week, the MP unit of the CBN discovered 4,433.45 kg of poppy straw concealed inside boxes of a well-known biscuit brand and packaged in 206 plastic bags.
