Meerut: During the swearing-in of the Municipal Corporation in Meerut, UP, there was a lot of uproar. A scuffle broke out between the councilors of BJP and Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM in the fight over Vande Mataram song. Thereafter, top officials of the district administration reached the spot and pulled out the councilors of AIMIM. During this the BJP councilors started singing Vande Mataram. AIMIM councilors opposed this and kept sitting. Due to this, there was a tussle between the councilors of BJP and AIMIM and it even came to a fight. The police present on the spot intervened and pulled out the councilors of AIMIM. Due to this, the councilors of AIMIM started protesting, to convince whom Collector Deepak Meena himself reached on the spot. However, AIMIM councilors have boycotted the swearing-in and walked away. Police force has been called in huge numbers on the spot. BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Laxmikant Vajpayee present on the occasion told that if he had any problem with Vande Mataram, he should have remained silent. He would not sing Vande Mataram and remain silent, but AIMIM councilors made inappropriate comments. This worsened the situation. Instead of boycotting, he should have taken oath.
