Padma awardee booked for 'raping' adopted minor girl in Assam

The  Assam police have arrested a Padma awardee for allegedly raping an adopted minor girl. Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, the Assam police have filed a complaint against the Padma awardee (POCSO).

The victim said that her foster father sexually harassed her for a year, according to the FIR. Meanwhile, the Gauhati High Court has granted interim bail to the accused. Based on a complaint from a chief judicial magistrate who was informed by the district legal services authority, the Assam police have filed a case against the Padma awardee (DSLA).

"We are unable to comment on the matter since it is unresolved." The case, however, is under investigation, according to police. Justice Arun Dev Choudhury was released on bail since the accused's alleged crime was "serious in nature." Meanwhile, the victim is being held in a children's home and is being monitored by the police.
