Islamabad: Pakistan's Minister of State for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul, has stated that concerted measures are required to combat the negative effects of climate change and the looming calamity of environmental degradation. Despite contributing less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan is experiencing harmful climate change effects, according to Gul, who spoke at a climate change seminar at COMSATS University Islamabad. He added that the Pakistani government is taking practical steps to conserve the environment and mitigate climate change effects. Drought, urban flooding, heatwaves, and glacier melting are all natural tragedies that Pakistan is experiencing as a result of climate change, she said, creating food poverty, human loss, and a significant negative impact on the country's economy. The Pakistani government has initiated a variety of measures to safeguard the environment and combat climate change, including the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami programme, Clean Green Pakistan, the development of national parks, and the restoration of wetlands and animals, according to the official. Gul also emphasised the importance of improved technology in monitoring environmental shifts and forecasting future changes in order to deal with the new climate change challenges.
