Jerusalem: The Israeli Ministry of Energy said that Israel, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have inked a "historic" deal for regional cooperation in the battle against climate change. According to sources, the deal was signed in the presence of US Special Presidential Envoy on Climate John Kerry in Dubai, UAE, by Israeli Minister of Energy Karin Elharrar, UAE Minister of Food and Water Security Mariam Almheiri, and Jordan's Water Minister Mohammad Najjar.

Jordan will export 600 megawatts of green electricity to Israel under the terms of the deal, using new storage facilities that will be developed as part of the accord. In exchange, Israel would look at exporting up to 200 million cubic metres of desalinated water to Jordan through a new desalination plant that will be built in the country. According to the release, "the agreement will enable an unified response to climate crisis concerns, as well as energy security and water supply to the region."

According to the Israeli ministry, the collaboration was made possible by the normalisation agreement between Israel and the UAE, which was signed in September 2020.
