Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi addresses Troika Plus meeting

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that engagement with the Taliban's Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) government must continue to help consolidate peace and stability in Afghanistan, According to media reports. The Troika Plus believes that working with the IEA government will "help consolidate peace and stability, promote sustainable economic development, and help constrict space for terrorist groups" operating in Afghanistan, as per the report.

Qureshi said the group of four nations, the US, China, Russia, and Pakistan, has assumed greater significance and has a critical role to play in the crisis in Afghanistan, speaking at a Troika Plus meeting in Islamabad on Thursday.

"No one wants a return to civil war; no one wants an economic collapse that leads to instability; and everyone wants the terrorist elements operating within Afghanistan to be effectively dealt with. We all want to avoid another refugee crisis "He went on to say that all regional countries share concerns about the country's peace and stability.

Qureshi stated that the country's economy was on the verge of collapse and that the international community must provide Afghans with immediate humanitarian assistance.
