Islamabad: A well-known Sunni Maulana and his driver were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Pakistan's Karachi city. "Dawn News" quoted police officials as saying that Maulana Dr. Adil Khan, chief of the Jamia Faroothe madrassa in Karachi, was allegedly targeted on Saturday. According to a police statement, when the car carrying Khan stopped near a shopping center in Shah Faisal Colony, the miscreants on the two-wheeler vehicle fired indiscriminately at him and escaped from the spot. The founder of Jamia Faroothe, a madrassa in Khan Shah Faisal Colony, was the son of famous scholar Maulana Salimullah Khan. Jamia Faroothe celebrates the Sunni Muslim teachings of the Deobandi sect. Pakistan newspaper ' Dawn ' quoted hospital spokesman Anjum Rijvi as saying that Khan was taken to Liaqat National Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His car driver was taken to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed before arriving. The police is currently investigating the matter.
