The pink tax has been evolving around the world leading to the increase in gender-based price disparities making the women’s to pay extra tax on the female-driven products. Societies still not have equal benefits for women and men, there is still the cream layer that’s been served to the men of society. It’s vividly known that the pink tax implicitly gives way to a racist and misogynistic culture. The extra tax that women pay on the female hygiene products as compared to men for the same kind of product is termed as the Pink tax. Pink tax is not an actual tax it’s just a reference that women made to pay more for the similar products and services as compared to men. These pink taxes levy an extra economic burden on women by making them to pay more. When women get paid less for the same amount of work and pay extra tax on daily use products it imposes a monetary burden on them. According to the World Economic Forum Global Gender Report, states that when it comes to wage equality for the same work, women are paid less, and only five out of the 146 countries have managed to achieve a score higher than 0.80, which is a far less number. The United Nations has called on countries worldwide to take steps to eliminate the pink tax to ensure women achieve full and equal participation in the economy. These extra taxes are exploiting women around the world and using women to earn extra money. The products for women cost 7 percent more than average, and for personal care items, the difference rises to 13 percent. These Pink taxes further increase the pay gap in society. Imposing high costs for products targeted at women further deepens the gender divide and reinforces a particular idea and standard of beauty. India is not the only country that deals with the pink tax other countries like Argentina, France, Germany, the UK, Australia, and Italy are also a part of the pink tax. Activists and politicians argue that the economic impact of the pink tax is that women have less purchasing power, especially paired with the gender-based pay gap. Social scientists and retail experts say that this stems from the fact that society in general, typically, holds women to a higher standard when it comes to their appearance. This causes corporations to levy an extra tax on female products because no matter what they will still buy it to adjust to society's standards. When we say Pink tax or Blue tax it also represents color discrimination. Particular color is associated to the specific gender which makes other genders to feel outcast due to no representation of color to their gender. The practice of price discrimination is still present in society. It discriminates based on gender, age, location, desire, and customer wage. Companies when they know that women will pay extra money for their product they will without hesitation charge an extra sum for the product. The pink tax is nothing but a tool to create hierarchies between men and women. This is something that needs immediate attention.
