New Delhi: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court to provide free laptops, tablets or mobile phones for online classes to children of poor sections during the lockdown implemented across the country. On Friday, the Delhi High Court has asked the Center and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Delhi to respond to this petition.
The Delhi High Court has sought this answer so that poor children can be instructed to provide free laptops, tablets or mobile phones for online studies. Hearing this petition filed by an NGO, a bench of Justices Manmohan and Sanjeev Narula has sent notices to the Center, Delhi government, municipal corporations and 10 private unaccredited schools.
The court has asked everyone to present their case on this petition till 10 June. In its petition filed through advocate Khagesh Jha, the NGO has argued that the decision of private schools to conduct classes through video conferencing would affect more than 50,000 students belonging to the economically weaker sections (EWS). They can all bear the expenses of laptop, phone and internet.
