New Delhi: In a bid to accelerate India's energy sector progress over the next 25 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasised the importance of the energy industry and asked states and union territories to pay any power dues as soon as possible. The Prime Minister spoke about the "Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Electricity @2047" programme and said, "We initiated the complete overhaul of the nation's power sector eight years ago. Work was done concurrently in four separate directions such as generation, transmission, distribution, and connection, to improve the power system." "Approximately 1 lakh 70 thousand MW of new power generation capacity have been added to the nation over the past eight years. Today, the "One Nation One Power Grid" is what drives the nation. To connect the entire nation, around 1 lakh 70 thousand circuit kilometres of transmission lines have been installed "the prime minister said. "By the time we had reached 75 years of independence, we had vowed to have built 175 GW of renewable energy capacity. Today, we have come close to this target. So far, about 170 GW capacity has been installed from non-fossil sources," said PM Modi. "India is currently among the top four solar capacity-installing nations in the world. Today, India is home to many of the biggest solar power plants in the world. Over the next 25 years, India's development will be accelerated by the energy and electricity industries. In the last eight years, the country's capacity to generate power increased by almost 1.70 lakh MW", he said. PM launched country's first gold exchange, know how IIBX will work?
