PM Modi Discusses Global Issues with Austrian Chancellor Nehammer

AUSTRIA: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed several global disputes during his meeting with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Wednesday, including the Ukraine conflict and tensions in West Asia.

"I have emphasized before that this is not the time for war," PM Modi reiterated in Austria, echoing similar sentiments expressed in his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Added, "We cannot find solutions to problems on the battlefield. Regardless of where it happens, the killing of innocent people is unacceptable. India and Austria advocate for dialogue and diplomacy, and we stand ready to provide any necessary support"

Both leaders also united against terrorism. "We both strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms," PM Modi affirmed during a joint press statement with Chancellor Nehammer.

Describing his visit as "historic and special," marking the beginning of his third term, PM Modi highlighted the significance of being the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Austria in 41 years.

In a joint statement, PM Modi and Chancellor Nehammer underscored the longstanding India-Austria relationship dating back to the 1950s, emphasizing shared values such as democracy and the rule of law.

Chancellor Nehammer praised India's pivotal role in supporting Austria during the negotiation of the Austrian State Treaty in 1955, highlighting the trust and cooperation between the two nations.

During their discussions, both leaders expressed concerns over the current geopolitical climate, particularly focusing on Russia's actions in Ukraine and the complex situation in the Middle East.

Chancellor Nehammer emphasized the importance of PM Modi's visit following his discussions with President Putin, aiming to align Austria's understanding with India's perspective on achieving comprehensive and lasting peace, consistent with UN principles.

Acknowledging India's global influence, Chancellor Nehammer discussed India's role in international peace efforts, including its participation in the Swiss Peace Summit and its significance in global southern affairs.

Nehammer reiterated Austria's commitment to supporting Ukraine, aligning with EU policies while maintaining Austria's neutral stance, offering to facilitate dialogue as a reliable partner in the European context.
