PM Modi Set to Unveil Development Projects Worth ₹11,599 Crore in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a visit to Assam on February 3-4, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a range of development projects totaling more than Rs 11,599 crore. This visit aligns with the Prime Minister's commitment to offering world-class facilities to those visiting pilgrimage sites. Among the significant projects is the Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana (Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor), a scheme sanctioned under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE). This initiative aims to enhance amenities for pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple, and the foundation stone will be laid by Modi.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation stone for multiple road upgrade projects valued at over Rs 3,400 crore. These projects, part of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity, will encompass the upgrade of 43 roads, including 38 bridges, significantly contributing to improved connectivity within the region. Additionally, Modi will inaugurate two 4-laning projects, Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, crucial for advancing connectivity to Itanagar and fostering overall economic development.

Recognizing the sports potential in the region, the Prime Minister will initiate projects to boost sports infrastructure. This includes the construction of an international-standard sports stadium in Chandrapur and the upgrade of Nehru Stadium to a FIFA-standard football stadium. The foundation stone for the development of infrastructure at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, along with a medical college in Karimganj, will also be laid by Modi. Under the PM-Divine initiative, the Rs 498 crore Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana, including the new terminal at Guwahati airport and a connecting 6-lane road, is expected to be completed by July this year. Additionally, the Prime Minister will initiate the construction of the Kaziranga Kuthori to Diphu 4-lane connecting road, a project with a cost of Rs 300 crore. The visit is anticipated to mark a significant stride in the development and augmentation of infrastructure in Assam.
