Monday was a mixed day for India at the BWF World Championships. HS Prannoy made a big upset in the men's singles event. Prannoy outscored Hong Kong star NG's Long Angus. Prannoy made a weak start to the first round match and lost the first game 13-21, though he made a strong comeback and won both the last games 21-18 21-19. Prannoy, ranked 32nd, advanced to the second round by beating ninth-ranked Angas in an hour and 11 minute bout. In the men's doubles event, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeated Daniel-Matthias of Denmark 21-18, 21-17. The Indian duo won the match in just 44 minutes to advance to the next round. However, in most of the doubles matches, India were disappointed. Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Devangan were outplayed in the mixed doubles. The mixed doubles pair of Utkarsh Arora and Karisma Wadkar also lost in straight sets. In the men's doubles event, India's Arun George and Samarth Shukla lost.
