Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launches 511 Rural Skill Development Centers in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 511 rural skill development centers in Maharashtra through a video conference on Thursday. These centers, named after late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, are being established across 34 rural districts of the state.

During his online address, the Prime Minister emphasized that these centers, strategically located in villages, will prepare the youth for global opportunities. The skill development programs offered by these centers will focus on various sectors, including the construction industry and modern farming techniques. Additionally, special training centers for media and entertainment-related skills will also be established.

Pramod Mahajan, in whose memory the centers are named, served as the Telecommunications Minister of India from 2001 to 2003 during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure. He tragically passed away in 2006 at the age of 56 after a family dispute led to him being shot by his brother, Pravin Mahajan.

The primary goal of these skill development centers is to provide employment opportunities to rural youths. Each center will offer skill development training programs in various sectors, and approximately one hundred young individuals in each center will receive training in at least two vocational courses. The training will be provided by industry partners and associates enlisted under the National Skill Development Council, ultimately contributing to the development of a skilled and well-trained workforce in rural areas.
