Kolkata: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has directed the Ethics Committee of the lower house to review BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's "bribe-for-query" allegation against Trinamool Congress member Mahua Moitra.Dubey accused Moitra of accepting "bribes" from a businessman in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. He called on Birla to establish an "inquiry committee" to investigate the allegations against her.
In response, Moitra welcomed any actions against her once the Lok Sabha Speaker had addressed the pending charges against Dubey. The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha is led by BJP member Vinod Kumar Sonkar.
Dubey penned a letter to Birla, titled "Re-emergence of nasty 'Cash for Query' in Parliament, Direct involvement of Smt. Mahua Moitra, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for serious 'Breach of Privilege,' 'Contempt of the House,' and a 'Criminal Offense' under Section 120-A of IPC."
He cited a letter he received from a lawyer who provided "irrefutable" evidence of bribes exchanged between Moitra, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, and a businessman.
According to Dubey's letter to the Speaker, 50 of the 61 questions posed by Moitra in the Lok Sabha recently centered on the Adani Group. Moitra has often accused the business conglomerate of malpractices, especially after a critical report on short-selling by Hindenburg.
