Punjab: Who was responsible for PM Modi's security lapse? Revealed in SC

Amritsar: The Supreme Court on Monday heard the issue of security lapses on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab. The Supreme Court has held SSP Avneel Hans responsible for lapses in the prime minister's security. The court said Hans could not fulfil his responsibility. The apex court said its report will be sent to the state and central governments.

The apex court had in January set up a committee to probe the matter. Now on Wednesday, state CM Bhagwant Mann had also termed the incident as 'unfortunate'. "Avneet Hans failed to perform his duty even after getting information about having the adequate force and passing through PM Modi's convoy two hours ago," the apex court said while hearing the matter. In January itself, the apex court had set up a committee to probe the criminal conspiracy angle and the role of the Punjab Police in the incident. Former Supreme Court judge Justice Indu Malhotra was heading the committee.

On January 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab but had to be stuck for 20 minutes, 30 km from Hussainiwala, due to the blockade by the protesters. The special thing is that due to this, Prime Minister Modi came back to Delhi without attending the program. After this incident, there was a fierce political uproar. A three-member committee was also formed by Home Minister Amit Shah to deal with the security lapses of Prime Minister Modi.
