CANBERRA: Qantas, Australia's national carrier, announced on Monday that it plans to launch hundreds of "points planes" offering ultra-cheap domestic flights in the coming winter months in an effort to boost domestic travel. According to state news report, the campaign is the airline's latest attempt to balance their frequent flyer sheets after passengers accumulated enormous stockpiles of points during the Covid-19 outbreak. The airline launched a "Green Tier" programme earlier this year, which rewards customers with frequent flyer miles for making environmentally friendly decisions. Passengers travelling between Australia's big cities will receive a 30% discount on economy seats beginning in June. In addition, 1,700 "points planes" will be launched, with every seat being paid using frequent flyer miles. The programmes, according to Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth, will assist enhance tourism across the country in the coming months.
