New Delhi: After the embarrassing defeat of the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi may once again take over the reins of the Congress after resigning from the post of National President of the party. It is believed that Rahul Gandhi will be given back this responsibility in April. According to Congress sources, he will be given this responsibility around the Baisakhi festival after the end of the budget session. Rahul Gandhi took this responsibility in 2017 after the party rejected the offer of the post of president several times. Rahul Gandhi was then elected unopposed by the Congress. But after the embarrassing defeat of the party in the 2019 general elections, he resigned from his post. Although the party persuaded him not to do so many times, Rahul Gandhi did not withdraw his decision. Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of president in May, taking the responsibility of losing the election himself. A few months later, Sonia Gandhi was appointed the interim president of the Congress. The party is still looking for a permanent president and given the kind of acceptability of Rahul Gandhi among party workers, the Congress wants to once again hand him the post of president.
