Rahul-Priyanka demanded justice for Bilkis Bano, targeted govt

New Delhi: Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday (August 25) demanded justice for Gujarat riots victim Bilkis Bano's gang rape and murder of seven members of her family in 2002. On the release of 11 people found guilty, the government has made its stand clear by maintaining silence.

Let us tell you that under the amnesty policy of the Gujarat government, on August 15, 11 convicts of this case were released from the Godhra sub-jail. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted in this regard, 'The government has drawn its line by keeping silence on the rhetoric in support of the release of 11 people convicted of rape, their welcome on camera.' Priyanka further wrote 'But the women of the country have hope from the Constitution. The constitution also gives courage to the woman standing in the last row to fight for justice. Give justice to Bilkis Bano.'

Let us tell you that this statement of Priyanka has come at a time when a petition against the release of these 11 convicts is being heard in the Supreme Court. The top court has sent notices to the Gujarat government and the Center seeking their response on the plea challenging the release of the convicts. At the same time, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has also demanded justice for Bilkis Bano. He wrote in his tweet that, those who give recessed slogans like 'Beti Bachao', are saving the rapists. Today the question is about the respect and entitlement of the women of the country. Give justice to Bilkis Bano.
