40 lakh Indians died due to govt's negligence, give compensation of Rs 4 lakh: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed that "due to the negligence of the government, 40 lakh Indians died during the coronavirus pandemic." At the same time, he once again demanded a compensation of four lakh rupees each to the families of all the deceased. In fact, Rahul shared a screenshot of a New York Times report on Twitter, which claimed that India is obstructing the World Health Organization's (WHO) efforts to make the worldwide covid death toll public.

In such a situation, the former Congress president i.e. Rahul Gandhi has written in the tweet, "Modi Ji does not speak the truth, also does not let speak. He still lies that no one died due to lack of oxygen!" Rahul said, "I had said earlier also - due to the negligence of the government during Covid, not five lakh, but 40 lakh Indians have died. Perform the duty, Modi Ji- give a compensation of 4 lakh rupees to every victim's family. You are all aware that India on Saturday questioned the World Health Organization's methodology to assess the COVID-19 mortality rate in the country.''

In fact, the government had also said that such a mathematical model cannot be used to estimate the death figures in a country with such a huge geographical size and population. The Union Health Ministry said this in response to a New York Times article titled "India is hampering WHO's efforts to make the global Covid death toll public" published on April 16. In this regard, the ministry said that "the country has expressed its concerns several times on the methodology followed by the World Health Organization."
